“Effective implementation of enabling laws like the KP DV Act 2021 and improving facilities like Darul Amans and BoloHelplines are some of KPCSW’s priorities,” said Dr. Sumera Shams, Chair KPCSW. She appreciated the efforts of #AawazII and rights organizations that align with the mandate of KPCSW. “We can overcome challenges by integrating resources from civil society and the government,” said Dr. Shams, emphasizing the need for collaboration.

Presenting #AawazII’s key achievements relevant to KPCSW, Dr. Yasmin Zaidi said that the programme has trained a cadre of community leaders and youth that can help make local structures like District Committees on the Status of Women more effective. She recommended MOUs between DCSWs and local CSOs to formalize cooperation. Secretary KPCSW, Ms. Shazia Atta, requested nominations from as many districts as possible, especially from the more remote districts like Kohistan. #OmarAsgharKhan as #AawazII’s lead implementing partner in KP will gather nominations of trained individuals and send to KPCSW.

Ms. Rukhshanda Naz recommended reviewing the status of the Anti Rape Cells in the province and also suggested strengthening medico-legal facilities in public hospitals. Mr. Zawar Noor of Special Life Foundation suggested making all GBV facilities PWD accessible. Ms. Khurshid Bano stressed the need for finalising the policy on the rights of TGPs. Ms. Nisha Kaur appreciated the inclusion of non-Muslims in the Commission and its district committees. Syeda Nudrat, Gender Specialist from the Social Welfare Department, confirmed efforts were afoot to complete the five under-construction DUAs. Ms. Rashida Dohad recommended KPCSW stress the need for policies and budgets to include and benefit women in all their diversity to reduce intersectional vulnerabilities.
