In 2023-25 the Foundation’s technical assistance helped
the Governments of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa develop a cutting-edge Gender Budget Tagging (GBT) methodology to claim and improve investments in gender equality and women’s empowerment. By assigning codes and internationally accepted scores to cost centres in the budget (current & development) the GBT identifies the quantum and nature of gender-responsive budgets and tracks their trends over time. The Foundation applied the GBT on provincial budgets of three fiscal years (2020-23) to demonstrate the robust, policy-relevant data it generates. It also ran training workshops for government officials to support the GBT’s uptake.
