A delegation of 15 members from Aawaz II’s Provincial Forum in Punjab met with Mr. Tariq Javed, Commissioner, NCHR in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The meeting was arranged by #omarashgarkhanfoundation, the lead partner in KP to #AawazII.

Mr. Tariq Javed shared details of the Commission’s work in KP including support for subsidiary legislation to enable the implementation family laws for Christians and Hindus. He also discussed the first-ever legislation for ethnic minority Kalash community. Focused on protecting the rights of vulnerable groups, the Commission has helped finalize the KP Transgender Protection and Welfare Policy 2025 and pushed for implementing affirmative measures like the 2% education quota for religious minority students.

Commissioner Javed commended Aawaz II’s interventions, particularly its engagement with the KP Police to establish pilot Tahaffuz (for transgender persons) and Meesaq (for non-Muslim citizens) Centres in Peshawar and Abbottabad. “Such partnerships are vital for translating policy into tangible protection mechanisms,” he stated.

The delegation from Punjab appreciated the opportunity to learn from experiences in KP to safeguard the rights of non-Muslims, transgender and other vulnerable groups.
