Aawaz II - Tahaffuz & Meesaq Centres in KP
October 2025, Peshawar & Rawalpindi
“The KP Police will set up Tahaffuz and Meesaq Centres to provide security and redressal support to transgender persons and non-Muslim religious minorities,” stated Mr. Zulfiquar Hameed, IGP KP during a meeting with a delegation of #omarashgarkhanfoundation on 16 October 2025. The delegation shared the work of #AawazII in promoting social inclusion through protecting the rights of TGPs and non-Muslim citizens. 3 pilot Tahaffuz and Meesaq Centres, two in Peshawar and one in Abbottabad, will be set up as part of the Sahulat Markaz established by KP Police in these cities. The Tahaffuz Centres will serve TGPs and will be run by TGPs and the Meesaq Centres will facilitate non-Muslim religious minority communities and will be staffed by female and male non-Muslim citizens.
To assist the establishment of these centres in KP, on the instructions of the IGP, a visit was undertaken by AIG-Gender Aneela Naz to similar facilities in Rawalpindi on 21 October 2025. DSP-Admin Shahida Yasmin and other officers of the Punjab Police provided briefings on the SOPs and other details of these facilities.
