Ms. Rashida Dohad, Executive Director of #omarasgharkhanfoundation spoke about floods and #genderresponsivebudgets at a seminar convened by the Women’s Action Forum. She stressed the need to promte women’s leadership in deciding climate policies, actions and budgets. She called for increased investments in building climate resilience of rural and urban populations. Rashida said that people-centred, gender & socially inclusive climate actions were imperative as women, the poor, elderly, children, and PWDs are more vulnerable to climate emergencies. Non-Muslims and TGPs are also at risk of intersectional vulnerabilities in climate-induced disasters. Ms. Umme Laila Azhar, Acting Chair of the NCSW gave details of efforts to ensure government policies and programmes are gender-inclusive. The event also commemorated the 20th barsi of the devastating 2005 earthquake.
