Omar Asghar Khan Foundation

Climate Resilient Urban Communities

In 2019-22 the Foundation piloted an urban resilience project in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Abbottabad city, as part of the Asian Development Bank’s US$150 million fund supporting fast-growing Asian cities in reducing the risks poor and vulnerable people face from climate events. The Foundation brought together women and men from urban communities, local councilors and service providers like the Tehsil Municipal Administration and the Water and Sanitation Services Company. They collaboratively designed and implemented a series of adaptation measures like constructing improved water supply systems, installing solar lights, establishing a recycling facility, promoting home composting, and supporting waste segregation and management. Tailor-made training and interactive discussions helped the key stakeholders better understand climate change and the imperative to strengthen resilience to climate shocks.
