Aman Ittehad (United for Peace)

Formed in 2009 Aman Ittehad connected thousands of rights defenders, journalists, lawyers, business leaders, trade unionists, students, teachers, peasants, and artists across Pakistan to strive for social cohesion and to reject violent extremism. Aman Ittehad engaged hundreds of thousands of diverse citizens through nation-wide consultations in villages, towns and city centres to shape a Peoples Resolution, a pathway to a tolerant, democratic and inclusive Pakistan. It proposed a social contract asserting the fundamental equality of citizens. It called for strengthening democracy and provincial autonomy; and prioritizing healthcare, livelihood, education and justice. Aman Ittehad’s signature activity, Solidarity Day, included coordinated rallies on 1st January each year in cities, towns and villages across Pakistan, unifying public voices for democratic inclusion and social cohesion. Aman Ittehad remained active from 2009 to 2017, however, individuals and organizations associated with the network remain in contact.
