KP WPC prepares gender-responsive budget proposals for FY2022-23

P’s Women Parliamentary Caucus in collaboration with the Foundation & Shirkat Gah held a 2-day intensive meeting in which budgets for FY2021-22 were reviewed & gender-responsive proposals were drafted for FY2022-23. More than 30 parliamentarians from the ruling PTI and also from JUI-F, ANP and PML-N participated in the meeting along with senior government officials from Planning & Development, Social Welfare & Education Departments. Mr. Mahmood Jan, Deputy Speaker & Patron KP WPC commended the efforts and said, “the information and analysis reviewed will improve parliamentary debate and public finance decisions.” Dr. Sumera Shams, Chair-KP WPC said, “an unprecedented allocation of Rs. 1 billion for women’s empowerment was made in KP’s budget for FY2021-22 due to the efforts made by the WPC with support from the Foundation and Shirkat Gah.” She reaffirmed the commitment to build on that success in FY2022-23. The gender-responsive budget proposals prepared at the meeting will help KP enhance its contributions to Pakistan’s efforts to meet its obligations under CEDAW & SDG5.
