Covid-19 Response: 43 handwash units installed to promote hand hygiene

Districts Abbottabad, Haripur & Mansehra, June 2020

In partnership with the district administration in Abbottabad, Haripur and Mansehra, the Foundation provided 43 hand wash units to promote hand hygiene and prevent the spread of the corona virus disease. The units were installed in public places selected to ensure access for women and children. The Foundation took lead responsibility for designing, manufacturing and installing the units, while the district administration is responsible for supplying water and maintaining the units. The Foundation introduced an asymmetric basin design to assist access of children and people on wheelchairs.

The portable hand wash units were greatly appreciated by the public and the government counterparts. “This is a unique design that will benefit all segments of society,” commented a local man in District Abbottabad. “This support is exceptionally important in preventing the spread of the Coronavirus,” said the Tehsil Municipal Administrator-Balakot, District Mansehra. The hand wash units were supported under She Can Lead, a project implemented by the Foundation in collaboration with Oxfam, with financial support provided by Australian Aid.
