Foundation Hosts TV Show “Live with Talat”
On 6 December 2007, the Foundation in collaboration
with the District/High Court Bar Associations in
Abbottabad, the Abbottabad Press Club and AAJ TV
hosted the popular TV show: Live with Talat. More
than 1,000 lawyers, media persons, and activists
participated in the programme recorded in the
gardens of the Bar Club. Talat Hussain moderated the
show along with with other popular anchors Nusrat
Javed and Mushtaq Minhas. Upcoming elections and its
implications were the focus of discussions. |

Protest against Emergency in Pakistan
Lawyers, media and activists marched through the
streets of Abbottabad on 6 December 2007 protesting
against the emergency. They demanded the
reinstatement of judges who refused to take an oath
under the PCO; lifting of all curbs on the media;
and boycott of elections under present
circumstances. |

More than 200 activists of the Hazara Awami Ittehad
met in Abbottabad on 5-6 December to analyse the
events of 3 November and its implications on
people's lives. |

Protests on October 08, 2007
On
8th October 2007, more than 8,000 earthquake survivors participated in
simultaneous protests throughout Hazara
organized by the Hazara Awami Ittehad and the
Omar Asghar Khan Development Foundation. They
blocked main access roads including the
Karakorum
highway in Battagram, the Murree-Muzaffarad road at
Kohala bridge; the Kashmir Road at Garhi Habibullah,
and the Balakot-Bessian road at Hussa bridge. A
Citizens’ Charter of Demands calling for a review of
ERRA policies was presented. Protesting women, men
and children vowed to continue their struggle for a
review of policies that have resulted in prolonging
their suffering. |

People’s Assembly on Second Anniversary of
Earthquake-2005
Hazara Awami Ittehad and Omar Asghar
Khan Development Foundation in collaboration with
AAJ TV organized a People’s Assembly in the grounds
of the
Degree College in Balakot that was destroyed by the
earthquake. The Assembly was organized on 8th
October, marking the second anniversary of the
quake. More than 1,500 people from across Hazara
participated in the Assembly. It was telecast on AAJ
TV. |

Launching of Publication: Living on the Faultline
Omar Asghar Khan Development Foundation launched its
publication: Living on the Faultline at a
press conference held in
Islamabad on
11 October 2007. The publication presents
findings of a study conducted by the Foundation and
Dr. Kaiser Bengali on the allocation of
rehabilitation funds in District Abbottabad. It also
presents testimonies and analysis of more than
34,000 women, men and children devastated by the
2005 earthquake. |

More than 6,000 women and 28,000 men participated in
30 People’s Assemblies
More than 6,000 women and 28,000 men participated in
30 People’s Assemblies and more than 250 corner
meetings held across the affected areas over
24-month since the earthquake in October 2005. They
shared their perspectives, priorities, and opinions
on the rehabilitation process, and formed a
Citizens’ Charter which demands better government
policies on compensation and greater flexibility in
house reconstruction. |
